Re: bolt on guitar necks or set necks?
Set necks are nice, because they're usually intonated properly and improve the quality of the guitar, and the quality of the sound.
Bolt on necks are nice because you can shim them, exchange and swap them, etc.
For me, it really depends on the guitar.
If I were buying a $2,000 guitar, I'd want a set-neck because I doubt I would ever want to change it.
If I were buying a $200 guitar or so, I'd probably want a bolt on.

Bolt ons by a mile - it makes adjusting the neck, swapping it etc (what Matt said) so much easier. The tonal differences of a set neck are barely noticeble, and the few miliseconds of sustain you get with it are just not worth it. A well bolted on neck will sound just as good as a set neck to most peoples ears.
