Completely wrong section, moving it now.

EDIT:

For acoustics: Old guitars no doubt. The sound is superior.
For electrics: It's nice to have a vintage guitar, but things have been perfected since then.

Also, adding a poll to this topic.

That is rarely noticeable, though. The wood in an electric guitar doesn't make that much of a tone difference, honestly, and age doesn't make much of a difference either. It's there, just hardly noticeable.

True, but they are also good for lead. Kind of like a neck single-coil...

what makes an old electric guitar have softer tone is the pickups are worn out
and the magnetic poles don't hold as much magnetic charge any more,

That's the same as turning your tone knob down, essentially.

You have to figure in three things with vintage electric guitars.

The vintage aspect. Do you want a guitar just because it's vintage? This is the main reason for old electrics.

Craftsmanship. Things were generally made more sturdy years past, this normally isn't much of a deciding point though.

Effeciency. Not exactly the right word for this, but how 'good' really is it? You can buy an old guitar for $10,000 just because it's vintage, but you get it and find out it sounds like shit and it's hard to play.

It doesn't sound terribly bad, but it doesn't sound really good either.

New electrics. And I don't like acoustic in general.

New electrics. They seem to be a bit more reliable and sometimes a lot cheaper than 'vintage' guitars.
